World on the Square 2008!
Our Festival Goals
The purpose of the World on the Square family festival is to help give children, youth and adults an appreciation and respect for different cultures through art, music, food and education ... and to promote the peaceful resolution of social and political conflicts as an alternative to prejudice and violence. In this way, we prepare our children to live and advance in a world where their future professors, fellow students, co-workers and community neighbors will be from anywhere on the globe.
A Fun Multi-Cultural Experience
The festival, which is free to everyone, features exhibits from around the world, an international food tasting sample buffet with food prepared by many local cooks, live music and dancing, participatory games (including lots of piņatas) and art activities, all of which reflect the very diverse ethnic and cultural heritage of the people living in and around our community. The rain location is at Corydon Central High School.
An Educational Evening for Young and Old
Children are given a festival "passport" (in English or Spanish) when entering the festival that includes questions whose answers can be found by visiting some of the more than 20 different exhibits. When they have answered the questions in their passports they receive a prize. There are giveaways and door prizes for adults too.
Music from Around the World
The live entertainment always includes musicians, singers and dancers from diverse ethnic backgrounds whose purpose is to entertain and educate the audience by involving them in the music.
